Pole Tricks | Angelic Pole Dance Studio

I tried a pole tricks class!! Taking a pole dancing class has been something on my to do list for a while. I wanted to see if it was possible for me to do since it looks so difficult.

Pole Dance Studio

Angelic Pole Dance Studio is located in Vaughan just off the 400 and Hwy 7 at 14-260 Edgeley Blvd, Vaughan, Ontario L4L 8E6. I found this studio through Class Pass. If you want to learn more about Class Pass check out my post about it here. They recently updated their free trial to be one month with 54 credits instead of 34!

As expected, pole tricks ended up being very hard. This class made me the most sore than any of the other classes I did recently.

We came for a Sunday 12 pm Pole Tricks class. The class was listed as an open level class where students can come and practice tricks. So we hoped they would be beginner friendly as I have never been to pole class before. The studio is located on the second level in a quiet business park area. You leave your shoes at the entrance and come into a clean mirrored studio. They had a room for cubbies to hold your things as well as a small change room. The studio was cute space with pretty decor and open windows. There was even a couch and some plants in the studio that gave it a cozy feeling.

Our instructor was named Anastasia. She actually didn’t speak much English. She learned pole back in Ukraine and her other two students also happened to be from Ukraine. They ended up helping with some translation but she still asked if it was out first time and tried her best to accommodate to us. Everyone was very welcoming of us.

For warm up we grabbed yoga mats that were provided and rolled them out. During warm-up we did stretches that covered everything from our neck all the way to our fingers and toes. We did some exercises to warm up our muscles as well. Anastasia accommodated us by having my friend and I do less reps compared to her regular students to conserve our energy.

The rest of the class was just everyone attempting tricks!

We watched the more advanced students do some crazy flips as the instructor assisted them.

For us, she showed us some basic moves and we tried our best to copy it. It did take some getting used to as you had to learn how to best grip onto the pole otherwise you just slide right down. Even if we failed, Anastasia kept encouraging us to try. She also would come and even assist by holding you up. As you tried one trick she would show you another after gauging what level you were at.

What I have learned about pole dance is: The less clothes you have. The better. The friction from the pole on your skin is what helps keep you on the pole. Otherwise you would be using too much strength to hold yourself up.

I was able to do most of the tricks that Anastasia showed me but my friend found herself slipping a lot. This class does require some good upper body and core strength. You also have to be willing to be at an elevated height.

I did have lots of fun trying out the tricks. I learned how to climb up the pole and change into different positions so you can hold yourself up without your arms. The pole also has a locked and unlocked position. This means you can practice when the pole is stationary, then when you want to try spinning you can unlock the pole and having it help you rotate around.

You will get dizzy! Especially at the beginning. Over time it gets a little better but I think for just one class you’ll likely be dizzy after attempting each trick.

Overall I had a great time and loved the enviroment. If you ever want to try a pole dance class. I do recommend this studio!
