Toronto Cherry Blossoms | Trinity Bellwoods Park

It’s cherry blossom season in Toronto! Part of the beauty of cherry blossoms comes from how quickly they come and go, so I try my best to go out and see them every spring. First stop Trinity Bellwoods!

With how crazy the spring weather fluctuates in Toronto it can be difficult to find a nice day to get out and see cherry blossoms. So I took the opportunity of a sunny Friday after work and went downtown to Trinity Bellwoods Park at 790 Queen St W, Toronto, ON M6J 1G3.

I was actually taken by surprise by how bloomed and beautiful the blossoms were this year. They were a cute baby pink colour and the wind had them gently swaying back and forth. I usually visit High Park (this adventure coming soon) but this was my first time seeing them at Trinity Bellwoods.

Walking from the east on Queen Street I hit a few steps up into the park and the start of the cherry blossom walkway. There were trees on both sides and their branches extended over top of you as you walk down. This stretch is quite short, but being in the middle of it does transport you to feeling like you’re in a forest full of blossoms.

Since the blossoms are sensitive to weather changes they can quickly leave us. People tend to flock to see the blossoms when they arrive making crowds expected. But something about seeing people mutually getting excited about them and appreciating their natural cycle every year makes me feel warm inside. You realize how simple things like flowers can make people happy and gather together. I saw a couple holding their dog up into the trees to capture a picture of the doggo with a backdrop of cherry blossoms and found it to be the cutest thing!

The crowds didn’t seem too bad for a Friday evening, but I did go just to admire the blossoms. If the goal was to have a photoshoot with them it would be quite difficult to capture a shot without others in frame. There are smaller trees spaced out beyond this path that gave others an opportunity for solo pictures. I do think going to see them on a sunny day makes a huge difference when it comes to taking photos. The pink/white blossoms against a blue sky really makes them stand out versus against grey clouds.

At the end of the stretch of cherry blossoms, facing south-east you can see the CN tower popping up between the branches. A very “toronto-esque” shot.

Trinity Bellwoods Park itself is a really nice park next to the downtown core to spend time in and enjoy the greenery. There are many benches throughout the park and the area is mainly flat green space so it’s perfect for picnics. It’s also still within downtown to visit the abundance attractions nearby.

After seeing the blossoms up close I spent some time just reading at the park. There are lots of shops, cafes and restaurants on Queen Street, so before I got to the park I stopped by to get a coffee and pastry at Nord Lyon and bought a little plant at Chive! It was good weather to just enjoy the cherry blossom views and spend time outdoors.

There’s still time to cherry blossom season in Toronto this year, so I hope you get out there to see them this spring!
