While using my Class Pass free trial I really wanted to make use of all my credits. I booked another pilates class, but time it was a mat pilates class at Hamony Fitness. It is located at 107 Orfus Rd, North York, ON M6A 1M4. I frequent here from time to time and never knew this studio existed. It is a pleasant surprise for someone living on the west end who does not always want to travel downtown or east.

After checking in you can head to their studio that is filled with lots of exercise equipment. Hanna was my instructor for the Pilates Express class. She already had mats placed out along with the equipment she planned to use when I came in. There were only 5 students booked this day but two of them didn’t show up. So it ended up being a small class of three.

This was a more calming pilates class compared to the reformer one I attended. The music was more in the background than used to keep up with. It was a total body workout that did leave me sore for a few days. We used our body weight and some small ball weights that helped engage our muscles with repetitive motions. Each move had a good amount of reps to really make ur muscle work and shake. We did a lot in plank position so this was a good core workout.

The class did start with a breathing and stretching warm up and then a similar cool down. With the class size being small Hanna does pay attention to your form and correct it for you. At the end I was quite sweaty and I really felt like I got a good workout in.

Ratings:

Enjoyment - 8/10

This was just a guided pilates class, but i do enjoy pilates and say this was a good class.. It’s definitely something that you could do at home maybe with some videos, but showing up and doing it elsewhere helps you hold accountability to showing up..

Difficulty - 8/10

Some moves really make you shake. All moves were simple enough to follow. A few of them required balancing on a ball with one leg while planking, but you can always modify it to what is safer for you.

Facilities - 8/10

This studio looked more like a typical gym with all the black mats and all the equipment lying around. You can tell it is a multi-use space and not just for pilates. The studio and equipment were clean and lots of towels were available for use. I really loved their well cushioned mats! The instructor and front staff both were very nice and friendly to talk to.

Location - 7/10

There is parking! It is good to get to by car with lots of available parking around. There are buses in the area but it is not the most TTC accessible location.
